One part absurdist and one part exploratory, this project relies on developing low-tech approaches in mapping various energy changes of heat and stress within unannealed products of the blown glass process. Cup subjects of specific design were blown, assembled, and then delivered into a water chamber upon completion. One cup subject was delivered right-side up, another delivered upside down.
Efforts to document the immediate energy changes between hot cup subjects and lukewarm water within the chamber were being explored and catalogued through water temperature readings, measurements of water weight (before and after evaporation), sound files of the glass being quenched (audio recordings of stress upon submersion), sound files of the water’s sizzle after submersion, and the visual effects upon the cup subject through video documentation.
