Spawned through the constrictions of the 2020 COVID lockdown, I — as a media-specific artist whose work has significantly relied on very specific processes, equipment, and facilities no longer available to me (for an unknown amount of time) — had developed ideas for new work extending from an abstracted consideration of my relationship to glass. This is one such project, one that illustrates a school of thought I’ve coined as glass-related thinking: ideas informed by my long-term relationship with glass culminating in work actualized through non-glass means and/or methods.

Through a spoken word piece recorded on vinyl, the obsessive and redundant cadence of the glassblower’s most dominant thought while at work not only reveals the repetitive nature of their inner monologue, but also relies on a technology of playback that visually emulates the mantra it speaks.

“The mechanics of the hand at work as it responds to molten glass through a constant and revolving consideration of time, heat, physics, and symmetry rendered through spoken word.”
