The movement of a glass object’s structural failure when placed upside down in a kiln and overwhelmed by a hot temperature range is mapped within a still image, emulating something of a phantom’s passage through space.
The finished image is printed as a transparent, backlit photograph. The condition of the glass object is displayed next to its illuminated image. Correspondence between artist and a distant colleague places studio observance of material surrender within personal circumstances of vulnerability.
